This year’s event celebrates the 40th anniversary of house music with four days of free events at iconic Chicago venues, including Millennium Park, Navy Pier, and the Chicago Cultural Center. The festival brings an incredible lineup of local and international talent, along with house music fans from across the country, to Chicago for a weekend-long dance party showcasing the various sounds and styles of house music. The year’s festivities also include an industry conference featuring engaging panels with house music icons and experts at the Chicago Cultural Center.

The conference on Friday, May 31 at the Cultural Center will offer sessions on topics like the Latine influence on house music culture and how to make money as a musician in the age of streaming. The keynote Fireside Chat will feature Steve “Silk” Hurley of S&S Chicago with guest Jimmy “Jam” Harris, the Grammy-winning producer and songwriter. The lineup is out for this summer’s Chicago House Music Festival, taking place June 2 in Millennium Park and preceded by a fest pre-party on Navy Pier and a house music conference and open house at the Cultural Center.

A discussion of the steps successful house music entrepreneurs took to establish themselves as professionals who are able to earn a substantive living as entrepreneurs in their respective roles. The endangered status of the building that once housed the legendary Warehouse nightclub illuminated the urgent need to preserve Chicago's House history. The fight to prevent the Warehouse's demolition created an intergenerational movement demonstrating what community organizing can accomplish. “We are excited to expand access to free cultural programs into neighborhoods, finding exciting opportunities to ‘mashup’ popular annual events and create more memorable experiences for our audiences,” shared DCASE Commissioner Erin Harkey. On Saturday, June 1st there will then be a special Chicago House Music Festival Pre-Party at Navy Pier featuring the likes of Stacy Kidd, Gene Hunt, and more. Led by Chicago legend DJ Farley Jackmaster Funk and Delece Williams, #House40 Anniversary organization will produce the Inaugural House Music Parade and Festival, Saturday, August 31 at 10am in the South Loop.

On May 31, the House Music Conference will be held at the Cultural Center with keynote speaker Steve “Silk” Hurley of Chicago’s S&S Records. Taste of Chicago presents two more neighborhood events at Pullman Park (July 15) and Marquette Park (August 5) before culminating in the downtown Taste in Grant Park (September 8-10).
